Patrick HASSENTEUFEL - A Declining Medical Power ?
Pouvoirs n°89 - Le pouvoir médical - avril 1999 - p.51-64
A European perspective : France, Germany, Great Britain
A comparative approach of various European countries leads to speak
of the erosion of medical power rather than of its decline. Such an erosion
is evident in the field of professional power, given the increasing
regulation of medical practice through the intervention of outside
actors, motivated by economic criteria. It is also due to a certain loss of
the physicians’ power to influence public policy-making.
