Jean-Denis BREDIN - A government of magistrates ?
Pouvoirs n°68 - Qui gouverne la France ? - janvier 1994 - p.77-85
According to our tradition the magistrates are limited to a secondary
role, at once praised and scorned. But recently a few judges who are
very much in tune with the contemporary political culture, who appreciate
or are appreciated by the media, are dreaming of shaking up the
political world and of dazzling public opinion. Accordingly concerns
grow about a possible government of magistrates. Our old mentality is
still at work : we brandish the threat of an all-powerful judiciary when
we should be worrying about the drift of our justice.
