Bertrand GUILLARME - An Introduction to Contemporary Theories of Social Justice
Pouvoirs n°94 - L’État-providence - septembre 2000 - p.31-47
The theoretical reflexion about social justice deals with the way society
should distribute limited ressources to persons with antagonistic
claims, and tries to elaborate an impartial norm that may offer a reasonable way of solving their disputes. The vitality of the contemporary
debate on this issue is closely linked to an ongoing reflexion about the
social conditions of democracy. While some approaches attempt to dissociate
justice from any moral foundation by identifying it to rationality,
others associate justice with an ideal of social solidarity. However
there are also radical critiques of social justice, and some marxist take
it as the basis for a necessary challenge to capitalism.
