Fabrice RIZZOLI - Italian Mafias and Political Power : Territorial Control versus the Rule of Law
Pouvoirs n°132 - Le crime organisé - janvier 2010 - p.41-55
The four main mafia organizations in Italy are ancient political entities
which control the territory through the use of systematic violence.
They have accumulated capital and infiltrated the legal economy.
Constantly looking for social consensus, they form with their accomplices
a criminal social body, a “Mafioso bourgeoisie” which strongly
conditions politics. The Italian state is constantly trying to curb this
competition.
