The European Parliament represents a political space which, to some extent, foreshadows the Community public space with all its complexity. Twelve countries are represented and the political debate is carried out in nine different languages. Leaving apart the criticism concerning the « democratic deficit », an analysis of the European Parliament allows a better understanding of the specificity of the political activity at the level of the Community and of the obstacles it has to face.
