For a number of years, many critical studies have exposed the considerable impact the media seem to be having on the day-to-day working of democracy. While not underestimating the determining role played by media communication on governmental action, one should avoid any simplistic approach leading to a one-sided understanding of reality. There is indeed an undeniable risk of a progressive distortion of our political system through an excess of mediatization, but it will not become a real danger as long as our leaders will take their responsibilities, will go on wanting to govern and to act politically.
