The fundamental law monitoring the financing of the presidential election imposes only financial and penal sanctions on candidates who breach the rules applying to campaign funding or obtain funds illegaly. The absence of electoral sanctions similar to those applied to members of Parliament is due to constitutional and political constraints which are difficult to question. Résumé
