Antoine VAUCHEZ - Political and Administration Elite and Business Lawyers. Sociology of a Border Area
Pouvoirs n°140 - janvier 2012 - p.71-81
The recent infatuation of first rank politicians for the Paris bar is
intriguing and suggests the need to re-examine the border area between
“politics” and the “bar”. The article proposes to go beyond the traditional
alternative between the thesis of a return to the “Republic of
Lawyers” and that of a drift toward a “Business Republic” and conflicts
of interests. By following the circulations, the adding up and
transfers of positions in the border area between the world of politics
and that of the Paris Bar, one can identify the emergence of a totally
new zone - albeit well-limited and precarious - of contiguities and
interdependence at the edge of the worlds of political and administrative
elite and business lawyers’ practices.
