Shmuel TRIGANO - The Opacity of Openness : The Shoa Bewteen "Abuse of Memory" and "Modern Ideology"
Pouvoirs n°97 - Transparence et secret - avril 2001 - p.99-108
Today, an ideological trend is criticizing the « abuse of memory » and
opposing the discourse and policy regarding the « singularity » of the
Shoa. The debate centers around the collective identity of the Jews and
the normalcy of modernity. Applying the tools of the sociology of
knowledge, the author tries to show how the unconscious of modernity,
or the « ideology of modernity », represents the very framework of the
opacity of the Shoa for modern consciousness, and thereby he tries to
explain the impasses of the contemporary discourse.
