Nicolas HOURCADE - The Role of Supporters in the World of Soccer
Pouvoirs n°101 - Le football - avril 2002 - p.75-87
As the twelfth player, the public is an important element of the soccer show.
Supporters have long been well integrated into the European clubs to which
they have brought a valued aid. Given the professionalisation of soccer, the distance between supporters, managers and players has widened. In various ways,
supporters have tried to find a new role for themselves. However, due notably
to the paternalistic attitude of managers, who see them exclusively as supporters
during the event, they are finding it difficult to become equal partners in
the game.
