Not enough data is available to develop a scientific comparison of the role of the mayorhisp in the professional strategies of politicians in Europe. However, in most European countries, the dominant model is that of a specialization of the various levels of power, as opposed to the French peculiarity of an articulation between the local and national levels. However, the classic opposition between the ascending and descending career paths is not sufficient to explain the mode of construction of a political career in France. The search for the best evolutive combination of mutiple positions gives greater value to the mayorship and its strategic role as a political resource. Résumé
