Pascal MBONGO - The Trivialization of the Concept of Censorship
Pouvoirs n°130 - L’état des libertés - septembre 2009 - p.17-30
After having identified a number of intellectual and methodological
requirements to draw a fairly objective picture of freedom of expression
in France, the author looks at the specific ways of discussing freedom
of expression through a reference to censorship. What accounts for
the fact that public speeches condemning censorship are so numerous
and yet so inefficient ? The author suggests that this might be because
censorship has become a buzzword, i.e. a word that does account for
certain new features of freedom of expression but does not allow to
deal with them.
