Anne BOIGEOL - The changing modes of entry into the magistrature : from social necessity to professional virtues
Pouvoirs n°74 - Les juges - septembre 1995 - p.28-41
In an attempt to fight against the drop in status which has affected the
magistrature since the beginning of the twentieth century, the modes of
entry into the profession have been rationalized to take into account
scholarly achievements, following the procedure adopted for the civil
service and moving away from the tradition of the bar. The latter will
eventually be affected by a similar procedure. The magistrature should
gain in professional virtues but will be confronted with the dominant
position occupied by the École nationale d’administration.
