Bernard GLORION - Which Powers for the Order of Physicians ?
Pouvoirs n°89 - Le pouvoir médical - avril 1999 - p.135-144
Following several projects elaborated since 1845, the Order of Physicians
was created in 1945. Its means and function are established by
law. Formed of physicians chosen by their peers, the Order fulfills an
administrative role, and deontological and disciplinarian responsibilities
that have grown in diversity following the transformation of society and health care. Currently, the efficiency and multiplicity of therapies
demanding a strict control of the quality of treatments as well as the
economic problems raised by health care costs are at the center of the
profession’s concerns. Acting as a conciliator between the physicians
and the public authorities, the Order could, through an updating of its
functions and its means, contribute to facing these challenges.
