Pouvoirs n°163 - Les partis politiques - novembre 2017 - p.27-41
The debacle experienced by the Socialists in the 2017 elections has multiple causes and is not only due to the policies implemented by and the unfulfilled promises of the outgoing president. Hollande’s failure to discipline his majority accounts for much in the disrepute which has affected the President and his party. This failure is the unexpected result of the open primaries and of the initial choices made by the President in forming his cabinet. By neglecting the balance of forces within his party, François Hollande has weakened and divided it, and has caused its defeat.
