What is the impact of the economic downturn on the Japanese trade-union
movement ? What is the influence of the gradual transformation of management
practices on trade-union representation ? Through an analysis of
company unionism from the point of view of its actors and of the judicial
framework of trade-union representation, we intend to demonstrate that
there remains uncertain areas at the very heart of the social compromise.
Even though the trade-union movement is attempting to increase its
influence on the political scene, the fragility of the power bloc does not
appear to enhance its legitimacy.
